Help Me Home is a program for people who need special assistance if they are alone or lost and are unable to speak or properly identify themselves. Originally developed as the” Take Me Home” program by the Pensacola, Florida Police Department, this program is designed to help individuals who may be suffering from dementia, or have had a stroke, or other similar health issues that make it difficult or impossible for them to properly communicate or identify themselves. The program includes those with intellectual or cognitive disabilities, or those on the autism spectrum who are non-communicative. The program utilizes a current photo of the individual along with demographic and caregiver information.
How Does the Help Me Home Program Work?
When a caregiver alerts police they need assistance, a description and photo of their loved one is distributed as quickly as possible. Officers can access important data caregivers provided on the Help Me Home application and immediately have details about their loved one’s care and how to interact with them.
